Conversational Ops

The practice of running daily business operations through chat — WhatsApp, voice, email — with AI agents that take real actions against systems of record.

Conversational ops is the practice of running the day-to-day operations of a business through conversational channels — WhatsApp, voice, email, SMS — instead of through portals, apps, and call centers. The defining property is that the conversation is operational: a message ends in a real action (a booking, an order, an invoice) being executed in a system of record, not just a reply.

The pattern emerged in 2023-2025 as two trends converged: customers stopped installing single-purpose apps, and AI agents became competent enough to read calendars, charge cards, and update inventory inside a chat thread. The result is that for many businesses — restaurants, retail, services, hospitality — the cheapest and most reliable operational surface is now a chat.

Conversational ops is distinct from "conversational AI" or "chatbots." Those terms describe the interface. Conversational ops describes what the interface is used for: running the business, not answering FAQs.

How Nordix uses it

Nordix BIOS is built specifically for conversational ops. Every customer-facing interaction lands in a single thread on WhatsApp or voice; every action behind it — calendar reads, POS writes, payment captures — is structured and logged. The operator never sees a fragmented stack of channels; the customer never installs an app.

The economics are favorable: a typical operator deploying conversational ops with BIOS reclaims 22 hours per location per week of manual work and answers 3-4× more customer messages with the same headcount.
